2024–25 Visitor Survey Summary
The Lake Macquarie Tourism team conducted a visitor survey throughout the 2024–25 financial year to better understand our visitors’ experiences, preferences, and booking behaviours. The survey received 2,516 responses and was supported by a digital marketing campaign that delivered 288,910 impressions, helping us reach a broad audience and gather meaningful insights. The survey has provided valuable insights that will help shape future marketing campaigns and support our tourism operators.
Key Insights
- Visitor Origins:
The majority of respondents were from Sydney, with 51 interstate and 3 international visitors also sharing their experiences. - What Visitors Loved Most:
Lake Macquarie’s natural beauty, relaxed atmosphere, and friendly community stood out. Highlights included:- “Gorgeous place, hope to return soon.”
- “Wonderful nature and scenery, beautiful relaxing spot, lovely region.”
- “The people are lovely, the beaches are gorgeous, and the place is postcard worthy.”
- Top Attractions:
Visitors most enjoyed the lake, beaches, nature, and dining experiences. - Booking Behaviour:
- Word of mouth and social media were the most common sources for travel inspiration and planning.
- Visitors appreciated accommodating accommodation and ease of access to booking experiences.
What’s Next
These insights are being used to inform upcoming marketing campaigns, with a focus on:
- Highlighting nature-based and bookable experiences
- Tailoring advertising to match visitor interests and booking habits
- Delivering results back to our tourism operators
