Elixir featuring Katie Noonan, Zac Hurren and Ben Hauptmann
Overview
Join the ARIA award-winning folk jazz group Elixir, featuring Katie Noonan, Zac Hurren, and Ben Hauptmann, along with special guests Charm of Finches, for an incredible night of music. This event is presented by Live Music Lake Mac, Craft Music, Sum Management, and Kin Music.
Elixir's fourth album is based on the poetry of Michael Leunig, a National Living Treasure and Melbourne-born poet. The band was founded in 1997 by Katie Noonan, Nick Stewart, and River Petein. In 1999, saxophonist Zac Hurren, who is also Katie's partner of 24 years, joined the band. Guitarist Stephen Magnusson joined in 2005, and in 2019, they introduced Benjamin Hauptmann to their trio.
The new album, A SMALL SHY TRUTH, will feature compositions by the three band members, including National Jazz Award, ARIA Award-winning, and Freedman Jazz Fellowship finalist saxophonist/composer Zac Hurren, Freedman Jazz Fellowship-winning and National Jazz Award finalist guitarist Benjamin Hauptmann, and 5-time ARIA, AWMA, AIR, and APRA award-winning musician Katie Noonan. Alongside the trio, legendary double bassist Jonathan Zwartz will perform, along with a luscious string quartet with arrangements penned by some of Australia's finest composers, including Iain Grandage, Joe Chindamo, and Steve Newcomb. Michael Leunig himself will also read his poetry during the performance.
