Morning: Beach

Morning is the perfect time to hit the beach. Blacksmiths is truly family-friendly, protected from large swell in most surf conditions by a large rocky break wall. This break wall also offers prime fishing access to Swansea Channel for Dad and any young fishers keen to follow in his footsteps. Nearby, the sea caves at Caves Beach are another popular attraction. Kids will love exploring the small cave system and rock pools on a low tide.

Lunch: Speers Point Park

Speers Point Park is home to the ‘Best Play Space in Australia’, Lake Macquarie Variety Playground. The kids can go wild with swings, slides, climbing frames, water play zones and a whole lot more. Picnic, BBQ and covered seating facilities are available nearby for lunch, otherwise you can dine at the playground’s very own café. Also in the Park is the Speers Point Swimming Centre, an outdoor pool perfect for a cool-down dip after many energetic hours of play.

Afternoon: Charlestown Square

The afternoon’s activities will be provided by the number one entertainment destination in Lake MacquarieCharlestown Square. The largest shopping centre in the Hunter, Charlestown Square is home to over 270 stores including Myer. With restaurant and take-away dining, a cinema complex, laser tag, karaoke, bowling, Timezone and Megamania play centre, you certainly won’t run out of fun things to do. The Entertainment Pass (kids $30, adults $35) includes one movie ticket, a game of bowling or laser tag, a Timezone pass and more!

All Day Activities:

- A quintessential Lake Macquarie experience is to hire a boat for the day. Pick it up in the morning and spend many enjoyable hours exploring the lake. There are deserted islands, sandy inlets and quiet bays just waiting to be discovered. Kids can swim, toss a fishing line in over the side, or for some excitement, hook up the tow-tube and give the kids the ride of their life. Pack some lunch and hope onshore at one of the beautiful parks for a picnic or BBQ.

- For adventurous families, you can’t go past a day’s outing to the Tree Top Adventure Park, half an hour’s drive north of Lake Macquarie. Suitable for ages 3 and above, this unique, eco-friendly attraction will see the whole family monkeying through the tree tops on a series suspension bridges, flying foxes, trapezes and ropes. Attach a harness and away you go! BYO lunch, there is a BBQ and picnic area provided to regain some much-needed energy after your adventure.
